The Committee are very pleased to advise that following recent interviews, Gary Vandermeulen has accepted the position of Head Coach for the Club.
Gary brings with him a wealth of swimming and coaching experience at local, regional, national and international levels. Most notably, Gary swam for Canada in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul where he was a finalist in the 4x200m Free Relay. In addition, Gary was a GB Olympic Coach at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.
As well as his Olympic swimming experience, Gary has been the Canadian record holder for the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle. He was also a Silver Medalist for Canada in the 4x200m Free Relay at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and was the Canadian National Champion 22 times for short and long course swimming. His coaching credentials are equally as impressive having coached at World Swimming Championship, Commonwealth and Olympic levels. Gary has also organised a series of stroke clinics and swim camps.
Gary is currently the owner of Sheppard Swim School, Head Coach for Phoenix Aquatics, Swim Coaching Consultant at Glenalmond College, and Head Coach for Central Region Disability Programme.
Gary is going to join the Club on Monday 3rd September and will also attend both sessions of the West Districts sprints this Sunday and also attend the Forth Valley Junior League meeting on Sunday 16th September. Gary will be getting to know swimmers, coaches and parents over the coming months and putting in place a development plan for the Club.
We hope you will all join the Committee in welcoming Gary to the Club. Gary will undoubtedly be a great addition to our coaching team and he is very much looking forward to starting on Monday.
